Mom's Chili Recipe

I found it!  Mom's chili recipe...   I started looking for this a while back after I experimented with white bean chili.  I served it to Kelly and she was like, what the heck is this?  She said, I like Grandma's chili.  Well... mom unfortunately took a lot of favorite recipes to Heaven with her... so it has been blah cooking around here.

Would you like the recipe?  It is different than most chili's... less chili powder, very tasty and juicy, not thick.

Here it is!
1 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped green pepper
1 tbsp EVOO
1 lb ground beef (turkey, chicken)

1 lb can tomatoes
8 oz of tomato sauce
1 lb can chili beans (what ever type of beans preferred)  I like the beans that are already chili seasoned
1/2 tsp chili powder
dash cayenne pepper
1 bay leaf
1/4 teaspoon oregano
1 tsp salt

cook peppers and onions in EVOO until tender...
brown the ground meat of choice
Blend all ingredients into a slow cooker
cook on low for about 4 hours.  It should be nice and hot - taste for seasoning adjustments as it gets hot.  may need less salt, less or more chili powder... leave out cayenne pepper?

Remove bay leaf before serving - serve with your choice bread:  Italian, corn bread or corn bread muffins, or garnish with sour cream and shredded cheese and serve with chips.

This recipe serves 4-6 and tastes better if you can make it the day before and re-warm it for the next day.  The seasonings marinate and make it even yummier than slow cooking it.

  Enjoy!
